Contemporary culture rises from the rubble at Menorca’s magical Illa del Rei home to Hauser
Isla del Rey, now a national monument, is coming back to life thanks to the hard work of volunteers who spend their weekends restoring the hospital buildings and clearing its grounds so that visitors can get a real feel of what life must have been like for the seamen lucky enough to have use of its facilities.

Illa del Rei The island, also known as The Bloody Island, is in the middle of the Maó harbour, between Maó and Es Castell villages. Its name comes from the legend that Alfonso II of Catalonia and III of Aragón - known as "The Liberal" - came ashore here for the first time when he took Menorca from the Muslims in 1287.

The Christian basilica is located in the eastern part of a small islet known as Illa del Rei, in the center of the port of Maò (Menorca). At the end of the 19th century, a mosaic was discovered. M.L. Serra excavated the site in the 60's of the 20th century revealing the presence of a church covered by mosaics, several rooms, a stybadium.

The 4-hour boat trip starts at 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m.. We set sail from the Port of Mahon and head towards Illa del Rei, where you can visit the Hauser & Wirth art gallery for approximately 1 hour. After the visit, we will sail towards Caló de la Reina, Clot de la Mola or Cala Teulera, depending on the weather conditions.
